Louisville is a very special city and a beloved place to live for so many reasons. One of them is the many activities there are to enjoy by just taking a stroll down some of the city’s most walkable streets.

Check out this list of Louisville’s most walkable streets and then get out and take a stroll to enjoy the city for yourself.

  • Bardstown Road

A favorite spot amongst Louisville locals as it is a very fun place to walk around, shop local small businesses, and enjoy a fabulous meal, or enjoy some nightlife. Most of the activity on Bardstown Road is concentrated in the Highlands neighborhood (great for those wanting an outgoing lifestyle at their doorstep). Some popular shops include Acorn and Hey Tiger and popular bar hangs include Chill Bar and Time and Space.

  • Frankfort Avenue

If you are looking for something a little more unique or exotic, a place to find things you may not find anywhere else, then the shops and restaurants of Frankfort Avenue are the place to go. Just Creations is somewhat of a landmark on the street, it is a non-profit fair trade store where you can find handmade goods from over 45 countries located in Asia, Africa, Central America, and South America. If you are looking for unique eats, the Silver Dollar and the Irish Rover are great options.

  • East Market Street 8 Great Streets for Strolling in Louisville

Over the past few years East Main Street has grown in popularity as Nulu, or the East Market District has gone through an improvement in development. Some of the up and coming places on East Main include Joe Ley Antiques, Please and Thank You, Grind Burger, Garage Bar, and Climb Nulu.

  • Goss Avenue

A street with Germantown style that is less crowded than other walkable areas of Louisville is Goss Avenue. If you are craving a delicious pizza check out the New-York style pizza at The Post. Looking for Local Brews? You can find them at Four Pegs on Goss.

  • St. James Court

A great place to just get outside and enjoy the scenery is St. James Court. There is so much beautiful and historic Victorian architecture in the buildings that line the street. Take a guided tour of the Conrad-Caldwell house or check out one of their special events. Or just continue your outdoor scenic stroll with a visit to Central Park.

  • Main Street

Taking a stroll down Main Street will keep you busy for a day or multiple days as there is so much to do on both the east and west ends of Main Street. There is a variety of bars, restaurants, shops and more to explore. West Main Street is the place to get a little education and culture as many of Louisville’s museums are located here including: Louisville Slugger, Frazier History Museum, KMAC, 21c, and the Kentucky Science Center.

  • Fourth Street Live

Okay, this isn’t a traditional city street per se, but Fourth Street does run through this lively events venue where you can take in some nightlife and enjoy this 350,000 square foot entertainment complex really coming to life. It is full of many popular bars, restaurants, and more. It is a fun place just to walk around and enjoy being out and about.

  • East Oak Street

A fun, yet quieter street compared to the most popular activity hotspots in town. Some fun stops along East Oak Street include Scarlet’s Bakery, YesterNook Antiques, Fat Rabbit Consignment, and Kaiju Bar. It is a great place with an eclectic collection of unique shops.
